Felted wool potholders naturally dyed with plants! We use these in our kitchen every day. Wool is naturally insulating from both cold and heat as well as flame retardant; though they may singe if exposed to temperatures over 400* or direct flames. These large potholders are shaped after the sassafras mitten leaves, and can also be used as a trivet. Hanging loops are sewn on with waxed linen thread. These measure approximately 8" long and 6.5" wide.
Rust - onion skins
Forest green - mint + iron
Brown "stems" - black walnut hulls
Care: hand wash with washing soda to remove grease and line dry. Washing in a machine may felt and shrink them further. With care, they should last many years, and at the end of their life they can be composted or buried in your garden.
