Large Madder dyed collar #12

Half & half collar with natural buttercream sheepskin paired with a deep burgundy dyed with madder root & logwood & iron. Laces are sheep leather tanned with tanoak bark. As sometimes happens, this one shrunk slightly in the dye process and is discounted to reflect - it fits like the large on the shoulders but has slightly less width that is made up for by the volume of wool.

This sheepskin was naturally veg tanned & dyed by me, from sheep raised by Blackthorn Farm & Kitchen in Sandy Mush NC.

My sheepskins are tanned with mimosa (Acacia mearnsii) tannin extract, with additional ingredients used in the process including: salt, citric acid, soap, and distilled vinegar. They are softened with sheep tallow soap, sunflower seed lecithin, and sunflower oil.

Because the tanning and washing process I use does not involve harsh petroleum-derived solvents, and instead mostly handwork, the wool may contain seeds or small pieces of leaves and other vegetable matter, and it may also retain a faint smell of sheep and bark. Enjoy it! To care for this hide, air it out often. You can handwash with warm water and soap and line dry, or fill your washer and allow to soak. More info on my process, cleaning & care.
