A very soft, classic white lambskin that has turned a little bronzey golden from the tannins and sunlight. The wool has absolutely beautiful crimp and curl that averages about 3" in length, and the leather side is super soft with just a few minor score marks.
I believe this is one of the East Friesian cross lambs bred by Grassroots Dairy in Marshall and pasture raised by Good Wheel Farm in Sandy Mush NC - but some of them got mixed up with other skins that were processed at the butcher shop I work with.
This sheepskin was naturally veg tanned by me, and diverted from the waste stream of a butcher shop outside of Marion, NC.
Approximate measurements taken from the leather side: 23" x 33"
.
This hide is tanned with mimosa (Acacia mearnsii) tannin extract, with additional ingredients used in the process including: salt, citric acid, Charlie's soap, and distilled vinegar. They are softened with sunflower seed lecithin and organic sunflower oil.
Because the tanning and washing process I use does not involve harsh petroleum-derived solvents, and instead mostly handwork, the wool may contain seeds or small pieces of leaves and other vegetable matter, and it may also retain a faint smell of sheep and bark. Enjoy it! To care for this hide, air it out often, but when needed these are machine washable on a cold/gentle cycle! All sheepskin orders come with a care card explaining how to care for your sheepskin so it can be passed down for generations.
